Brian Toyota, MD

Brian Toyota, MD, is a neurosurgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors.

For Dr. Toyota, the most meaningful part of his work is treating patients as he would his own family. He values the opportunity to explain diagnoses, discuss care options and offer reassurance during difficult moments. "I always want people to know that treatment is possible and safe. They are never out of options," he says.

Dr. Toyota comes to El Camino Health through a collaboration with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He's inspired by the shared mission to offer the highest level of neurosurgical care close to home.

A professor of neurosurgery at UCSF, Dr. Toyota has held several leadership roles throughout his career. His experience includes serving as head of neurosurgery at the University of British Columbia, president of the Canadian Neurosurgical Society, chair of neuro-oncology at BC Cancer, and neurosurgery vice-chair at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC).

Inside the operating room, Dr. Toyota uses careful, precise techniques to help patients heal. His research focuses on minimally invasive brain tumor procedures. He's also studying the use of artificial intelligence to improve diagnostic accuracy.

He is fluent in French.

In his free time, Dr. Toyota enjoys staying active through fitness and sports, including golf and ice hockey.
