Faranak Kamangar, MD Dermatology in PALO ALTO, California

As a board-certified medical and cosmetic dermatologist, Faranak Kamangar, MD, specializes in the health of skin, hair and nails. She diagnoses and treats a wide variety of conditions for people of all ages, ranging from common acne and stubborn rashes to skin cancer.

"I highly enjoy treating all aspects of skin disease," she says. "One area I specialize in is treating inflammatory skin disease - which includes psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo and alopecia areata - with immunotherapies. Using advanced therapeutics to clear the skin for people with chronic skin conditions is incredible."

Dr. Kamangar believes that having a deep understanding of and a good relationship with a patient leads to better diagnoses and the ability to plan effective treatments through shared decision-making.

"Since our internal health can show on our skin, it is like a check engine light," she explains. "My approach to dermatology is to take physical exam clues and combine them with internal testing, if needed, to get a full view of a patient's health and areas to focus on."

Dr. Kamangar is honored to have been listed among the Silicon Valley Business Journal Women of Influence, Female Founders 500 by Inc. magazine and San Francisco Dermatological Society's Practitioner of the Year. She serves as an investigator on a trial testing a new re-pigmentation treatment for vitiligo. She also has done extensive research on psoriatic disease, atopic dermatitis and eczema.

In addition to English, Dr. Kamangar is fluent in Farsi/Persian.

With a background in engineering, Dr. Kamangar founded an artificial intelligence platform called DermGPT, used by dermatologists throughout the country. During time away from work, she enjoys traveling with her husband and their three children.
