John Parker, MD
Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery
New patient visits
Dr. Parker is one of the few orthopedic surgeons in Northern California who performs Total Hip Arthroplasty using a minimally invasive anterior approach. This approach avoids cutting muscles which allows for a quicker recovery with no postoperative hip precautions. Hip precautions have been required in the past to prevent postoperative hip dislocation. The minimally invasive approach produces an inherently stable hip without hip precautions or dislocation fears.
Dr. Parker also performs Total Knee Arthroplasty using a smaller muscle sparing incision. This allows for more rapid recovery. Total Knee Arthroplasty is essentially a procedure that resurfaces the joint to eliminate the pain from bone rubbing on bone. It creates a painless interface between the articulating bones of the knee joint.
Dr. Parker is also trained in the diagnosis and treatment of Sports Medicine injuries. These include injuries and disorders of the shoulder, knee, and ankle. These can often be treated nonoperatively, but some may require arthroscopic surgery. Injuries that are less amenable to conservative treatment include large rotator cuff tears of the shoulder, and meniscus tears and anterior cruciate ligament tears of the knee.
Dr. Parker has experience, also, in the treatment of fractures in patients of all ages. Fracture treatment can involve simple casting, for nondisplaced fractures, to surgical realignment and fixation, for more complex fractures.
