Mubashir Ayaz Ahmed, MD, is a pulmonologist, critical care physician and sleep medicine specialist. He treats a wide range of lung and sleep conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, pleural disease, lung nodules and sleep apnea. His expertise includes robotic bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) - minimally invasive techniques used to diagnose complex lung conditions.

Dr. Ayaz strives to make every patient experience approachable and reassuring. He takes time to build trusting relationships, understand each person's concerns and explain their condition and treatment options in a clear, straightforward way. His goal is to help people feel comfortable asking questions and making decisions about their care.

One of the most rewarding parts of Dr. Ayaz's work is seeing his patients improve and return to the activities they love. "Breathing is something we often take for granted until it becomes difficult," he says. "When people can breathe comfortably again, they're able to get back to living their lives." He's especially passionate about the early detection of lung cancer and interstitial lung disease, because early diagnosis and treatment can improve outcomes.

Dr. Ayaz served as chief medical resident during his Internal Medicine Residency at Ascension Saint Joseph - Chicago. He received the Dr. Michael Lippman Leadership Award in recognition of exemplary leadership during his Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, where he served as chief fellow. Today, he remains active in research focused on pulmonary infections, critical care and lung cancer, with publications in peer-reviewed journals.

He is fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu and Tamil.

Outside of work, Dr. Ayaz enjoys exploring the Bay Area with his family, playing tennis at a competitive level, traveling and learning Spanish.
