Tara Saxena, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery. She treats a wide range of hand and upper extremity conditions.
In her role, Dr. Saxena takes an individualized approach to care. "I enjoy caring for both pediatric and adult patients," she says. "I bring the same expertise, compassion and dedication to every stage of life."
Dr. Saxena is committed to providing patient-centered, sustainable surgical care. She is an advocate for Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet (WALANT) techniques, which enable her to perform hand procedures without anesthesia or sedation. This approach improves the patient experience and efficiency within healthcare - efforts she champions inside and outside the operating room.
A California native, Dr. Saxena grew up in Palo Alto before embarking on an academic journey that has taken her across the country and around the world. Now at El Camino Health, she values the opportunity to care for patients in the place she calls home.
Dr. Saxena helps shape the next generation of surgeons. As a participant in The Perry Initiative, she works to expose high school students - particularly young women - to orthopedics and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. She is also involved in the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, an organization focused on supporting women in orthopedic surgery.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Saxena enjoys running, biking or hiking with family and friends.
